Is it just me or many of us get really drawn by these overly hyped products that everyone seems to be obsessing over, because of their super cute packing or just because of the brand. Well, you may or may not know I am a sucker for cute packaging and always end up joining in on the bandwagon. But what really is the fuss about? Buying these over priced but cute products can have pros and cons so I went through my makeup collection to find the products that are overly hyped to give if these products are really worth the hype!
Marc Jacobs | Super Charged Foundation
I've had mixed reviews with Marc Jacobs Beauty, some have been awesome and others have been mediocre so I thought I'd give it a go! Plus the lady at Sephora was kind enough to look for my exact shade because it was the last one. This shade is called 'Beige Deep'. Here's what Marc Jacobs has to say about this foundation on their page: "Erase the past, perfect the present and protect the future with this breakthrough buildable gel. Features best-in-class gel performance with first -to-market buoyancy gel technology. This anti-aging foundation protects and hydrates skin with coconut water extracts. From natural-to-full coverage, your skin is awakened to its original translucence and clarity. See it as it was before too much sun, too many late night, and prepare it for tomorrow as well." I don't know about you, but I'd love a foundation that could do all that!!! This foundation is very light skin and feel like nothing at all even though it is a medium to full coverage foundation. It has no scent and it is cruelty-free. However, this doesn't suit well for someone who has dry skin as it tends to get patchy and creases on some areas but could be great on very hydrated skin.
Is it worth the hype? No.
Too Faced | Better Than Sex Mascara
When a mascara is super hyped up everyone has to go and buy it because who doesn't want the longest, voluminous lashes right?! Especially when the mascara is from my favourite makeup brand Too Faced which is packaged in the prettiest PINK tube! (You know how much I love pink!!!) Therefore, I had really high expectations so when I first tried it out I was a little disappointed when I didn't see my lashes transform into the lashes that I thought they would. To be honest, this gave my lashes so little length and was really dry and clumpy, which might be perfect for you if you like lots of volume, but I like my lashes to look much longer and separated so I wouldn't have to wear false lashes. I don't quite see what the fuss is all about (maybe except for the packaging), but I still love this brand! PS: I would recommend the Better than Sex waterproof mascara - it is comparable to Benefit's They're Real Mascara.
Is it worth the hype? No.
Kylie Lip Kit | Koko K
The hype is real with the Kylie Lip Kits and every time Kylie Jenner restocks her products, we all pretty much crash the internet in attempt to get our hands to it. Luckily, I managed to get both Koko K and Dolce K a few months ago. Personally I found Dolce K too dark on my skintone, but Koko is the prettiest pinky brown toned nude shade and is really wearable for everyday. Having tried my fair share of liquid lipstick brands (Revlon, Tarte, Anastasia Beverly Hills, etc.) it may be up there amongst the best among the other brands. It dries very quickly, feels so velvety smooth and very lightweight on the lips and is as non-drying as a liquid lipstick can be. I do find it super long lasting. However, the longer you wear it, it can go a little flaky which is the only downfall. I personally feel like they are so over-hyped because of the brand but I still love the product. I think everyone should own at least one!
Is it worth the hype? Yes.
Urban Decay | All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
Using the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray involves adding another step to my makeup routine but it's probably not as essential as an under-eye concealer. BUT, that doesn't mean you don't need it. Before I bought this setting spray, I had to read so many reviews online that either claimed that it's the best thing ever and that they couldn't finish their makeup without it, or the total opposite that it did absolutely nothing and is a waste of money. No in between! Having very dry skin, it was definitely something that I wanted to try and a bottles later I haven't looked at any other setting spray. I love it and honestly feel like my makeup stays in place, making it last longer than it usually would. It gives a seamless finish as it also seems to gel all of the powder and foundation together.
